TAKING THE LEAP TOWARDS NEW ADVENTURES

We've all seen cliché one-liners and quotes such as these:

  • “The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams.”

  • “In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take.”

  • “The biggest risk is not taking any risk at all”

  • “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”

  • “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”

Are these just empty phrases that we are not meant to act on? What would it be like if we actually listened to these so-called "words of wisdom" from those that have followed them?

I wanted to find out first hand.

The feeling of wanderlust and the desire to see and experience more of this world have been stirring in my soul for years.

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." Robert Frost

The first road was logic and the comfortable path before me that I was already enjoying. The other was the road of the heart. The road filled with excitement of the unknown, the question of what possibilities may lie dormant until explored. My soul wouldn't be at peace if it wasn't listened to simply because it would be too big of a leap, too much of a disruption, too large of a step out of the comfort zone.

Life is too short and the knowing that one day I will no longer be on this planet is a beautiful reminder to enjoy the days that I do get to wake up healthy, full of vitality, and a thirst for life.

In life, we will never be fully ready to jump into the unknown. Perhaps that is why we must trust that things will work out and jump even while we are afraid.

CHOOSING THE WORKAWAY PATH About two years ago, I stumbled upon Workaway's website (www.workaway.info) while browsing through other travel blogs. Workaway matches hosts all over the world with volunteers that want to help out in exchange for a place to stay. Once I browsed through the website for a while, I knew this was the possible answer to that question of “How does one travel and fully experience new places and perspectives while on a budget?.” This was it, offering possibilities to travel while making new friends in new countries, to exchange knowledge and perspectives while immersing more fully in whatever culture we find ourselves in.

Consciously realizing the many trade-offs, the potential discomforts and bumps in the road, but holding fear in one hand and passion in the other, the only thing left to do was decide...and it had to be a Now or Never decision otherwise we could keep delaying this dream forever.

Life itself is always the journey. And we are here to enjoy every step along the way.

This is life. Pure & simple. To be present with every breath. To feel every ray of sunshine and every drop of rain on our skin. To stand in awe of the night sky over and over again. To enjoy the natural rush of dopamine as we enter new worlds. To go beyond the limits of what our perceptions allow us to see. To embrace the unknown and follow the call from within. Life is happening all along while we are busy making other plans. Let's just BE. HERE. NOW. & savor every sip from this cup of aliveness.
